How we work: a framework built
around your business

Making Sense brings a consistent methodology to every engagement, regardless of scope or industry. It starts with understanding how your business actually operates, moves through a structured path to validate ideas before full investment, and stays focused on measurable results at every stage.

We understand, define, and design

Every engagement starts with the same commitment: understand what the business needs, define the right priorities, and shape the first design decisions before execution begins. Depending on the complexity, this may involve a few focused conversations or a structured 2 to 4-week process with key stakeholders.

That early clarity becomes especially valuable during significant growth, major initiatives,
or post-acquisition integration.

FRAMEWORK

The framework

This framework has been shaped by years of delivery experience across industries, teams, and business contexts. We use it because it gives every engagement a clear structure, keeps decisions connected to business priorities, and helps teams move from initial alignment to measurable outcomes with confidence at every stage.

  • 1. Empathize

We sit with your team to map how the operation actually works: where decisions slow down, where data becomes unreliable, where handoffs require extra coordination, where people carry institutional knowledge that lives outside any system.

A shared foundation: Product, technical, and business perspectives are involved in the same process, so every decision that follows is grounded in a complete picture of the operation. What comes out of this stage is alignment on where to focus for the highest business impact.

  • 2. Define

With that understanding in place, we translate what we heard into a concrete action plan, prioritizing the highest-impact opportunities and defining exactly what we are going to do and why.

The output: Scope, priorities, success criteria, and the reasoning behind each decision. Trade-offs get resolved here, while adjusting course is still straightforward.

  • 3. Prototype

Before moving into delivery, we develop lightweight proof-of-concepts that let you validate the approach against real conditions.

Why it matters: A prototype surfaces integration challenges, reveals assumptions that deserve revisiting, and gives stakeholders something concrete to evaluate. It compresses the feedback cycle significantly and reduces the distance between what was scoped and what actually fits the operation. And it lets you validate the investment before committing to full delivery.

  • 4. Deliver & Scale

Once the prototype is validated, delivery follows a structured path: sprint planning, quality control, staged deployment, and feedback cycles that inform what gets built next. We stay involved after launch to ensure the solution performs in production and scales as the business grows.

Short cycles by design: Delivery is structured in iterations so the business sees value before the project is complete. Each cycle produces something usable, something measurable, and something that informs the next step.

Our engagement models

Focused Engagement

One clear initiative, moving quickly from decision to execution. Best suited for a well-defined, contained scope.

Expanded Engagement

Several fronts moving in parallel, or one initiative accelerating. Best suited for scope beyond one workstream.

Ongoing Engagement

A deep engagement that can span the client's full portfolio, with priorities governed jointly. Best suited for complex initiatives across multiple products.

Building capability

Every solution we build is designed to be understood and operated by the team that will use it. That means involving the right people during development, building in the training and documentation needed for real adoption, and ensuring the tools become a lasting asset for the organization. The goal is that when the engagement ends, the capability stays.

What sets our UX approach apart

From prototype to final release, every product we build is designed around who the user is and what they need to accomplish. Our UX and product design practice is embedded across every engagement, focused on producing interfaces that feel intuitive, workflows that get adopted, and customer-facing products that convert.

Every Making Sense team combines engineering and product vision from the start, so design shapes prototypes and technical decisions, staying active through delivery.
